MPB Library Literacy Tour

Join us for these virtual events

In September MPB Education kicks off the MPB Library Literacy Tour in different communities across Mississippi. These events will take place on the last Saturday of the month and are geared to children Pre-K to 8 years old and their families. However, all family members are welcome.

At each event, children and their families will watch a PBS KIDS program, complete fun activities related to the program and read a book. MPB’s Ed Said, the rapping, rhyming purple character that promotes health and wellness, will also participate in the tour.

September 2021

Our first stop of the tour is at the Orange Grove Library - Harrison County Library System. This event features Daniel Tiger. Families will view a Daniel Tiger episode, enjoy a family activity, and a read-aloud by MPB's Ed Said.

Our second stop of the tour is at the Lincoln Lawrence Franklin Regional Library in Brookhaven, MS. This event features Clifford the Big Red Dog. Families will view a Clifford the Big Red Dog episode, enjoy a family activity, and a read-aloud and a special appearance by MPB's Ed Said. One lucky participant will win a PBS KIDS Playtime Tablet and his/her family will receive a special gift.

MPB Library Literacy Tour at Orange Grove Library - Gulfport, MS

On September 25, 2021, MPB Education and Ed Said traveled to the Orange Grove Library in Gulfport, MS. This was the first stop of our new MPB Library Literacy Tour. Each tour stop has a different theme. Saturday, we focused on Being a Good Neighbor. Attendees watched a Daniel Tiger Neighborhood episode and made special helper hats. Enjoy these pictures from our event. We sure had a lot of fun!

In partnership with the Mississippi Library Commission and libraries across the state, the MPB Library Literacy Tour featuring Ed Said will have events virtually or in-person the last Saturday of the month from July to October and January to May.
